This applies to reserves. Exercises are inactive duty training (IDT) periods, under command, intended to expand training. No more than two exercises can be performed on a calendar day, and each exercise must last at least four hours. Most units plan to drill several times a month (two holes on Saturday and two holes on Sunday). They also reserve only a few seats, which makes it more difficult to join this service. When you sign up for active service, you are actually signing two conscription contracts. The first places you in the Deferred Enrolment Program (DEP). Both the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard offer scholarships. The Army National Guard allows tuition fees of 100%, not exceeding $250 per semester hour, up to $4,500 per year.
The Air National Guard offers tuition fees of 100% that do not exceed $250.00 per semester hour or $166 per quarter of an hour up to $1,000 per year. In addition, many states offer additional educational services to members of their National Guard (the National Guard is largely controlled by individual states rather than the federal government, so the benefits can vary greatly from state to state). Air Force reserves give tuition fees of 100% for undergraduate programs. The TA is capped at $250 per semester hour, or $166.67 per quarter hour, up to a maximum of $4,500 per year. For graduate programs, the Air Force Reserve offers a 75% TA, limited to $187.50 per semester hour, or $125 per quarter hour, with an annual maximum of $3,500. The Army Reserve offers 100% TA for bachelor`s and master`s degrees. The TA may not exceed $250 per semester hour or $166.67 per quarter hour up to a maximum of $4,500 per year. Coast Guard reserves provide technical assistance for bachelor`s and master`s degrees. Technical assistance may not exceed $250 per semester hour or $166.67 per quarter hour up to a maximum of $4,500 per year. The Navy and Marine Corps Reserves do not currently offer a tuition assistance program.
(for full reserve service) military personnel who are called up for active duty under Title 10 – Federal Appeal – will receive the same technical assistance benefits as their counterparts on active duty. This means, for example, that an active duty enlisted member of the Reserve Navy is eligible for the Marine Corps Active Duty Tuition Assistance Program. College Diplomas and Commissioning Programs The Air Force is the only service that actually delivers college credits and college diplomas. The Air Force does this through the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF), a fully accredited community college (the largest community college in the world). The CCAF does not offer college courses. The CCAF issues fully accredited university transcripts and awards Associate of Science degrees to members of the Air Force in the areas of education of their military specialties, using a combination of credits for off-duty college courses, military schools, and military experience. They will save lives, protect U.S. waterways and coasts, and so on. As with other conscription incentives, advanced conscription rank must be included in your convening contract. As long as you are on active duty, your medical, dental and eye coverage expenses will all be covered.
Navy. The Navy calls its recruited jobs “ratings.” The Navy offers two programs: Guaranteed Employment and Unassigned Sailor. While both programs are available, most are under the Guaranteed Employment program. Whether or not you are offered the job you want depends on your qualifications and the needs of the service. An anonymous seafarer can “strike” for a job after basic training. The Navy also has “special” conscription programs where you can find out which “region” you are going to, but not your specific assessment (employment). An example would be the nuclear program. These programs typically require higher ASVAB line values and require a longer service promise, but offer accelerated promotions, greater training opportunities, and higher conscription bonuses.
Coast guard. As with the Navy, jobs recruited in the Coast Guard are referred to as “ratings.” Of all the services, the Coast Guard offers the fewest guaranteed jobs. Usually, you report to the Coast Guard, undetermined, and then “strike” for a job at your first job after a period of training with the “Basic Coast Guard.” Some schools (and therefore jobs) are offered during basic education. While this system may seem detrimental (on the surface), there`s something to be said if you have the opportunity to spend time exploring the situation “at work” before deciding which job you`re going to “hit” for. This is a longer contract duration compared to other military branches, where they mainly have contracts of 2 to 6 years. Air Force. The Air Force calls its recruited jobs “Air Force Specialty Codes” or “AFSC.” The Air Force has two conscription options: guaranteed employment and guaranteed aptitude zone. As part of the “Guaranteed Employment” program, the candidate is guaranteed training in a specific AFSC (Air Force Job). Under the Guaranteed Aptitude Program, the candidate is guaranteed to be selected for a position that falls within one of the designated areas of aptitude. The Air Force has divided all its jobs into four areas of suitability (general, electronics, mechanical, and administration).
It`s unfortunate, but true, that the majority of jobs in the Air Force (about 60%) are reserved for people who enroll in the Guaranteed Aptitude Program. .
